Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy
Do you work with neurodivergent teens and young adults?
Yes. I work with neurodivergent teens and young adults who may be experiencing anxiety, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, low self-esteem, depression, relationship difficulties, or challenges related to navigating everyday life.
Therapy can be a space to better understand yourself without treating your differences as something that needs to be "fixed."
What are signs that my teenager or young adult might benefit from therapy?
A teenager or young adult may benefit from therapy if they are experiencing persistent anxiety, sadness, irritability, withdrawal, perfectionism, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, or significant changes in their behavior or functioning. This may look like: increased arguments, turning down invitations from friends, long bouts of crying, saying things like “I cant do anything right!” or engaging in maladaptive coping strategies such as avoidance, school refusal, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts. Your child may also claim everything is fine but you have the distinct sense that they are drowning.
Will parents be involved in their young adult or teenager's therapy?
What treatment modalities do you use?
Parent involvement depends on the client's age, needs, treatment goals, and the circumstances of therapy.
When appropriate, parent support and communication can be an important part of treatment. At the same time, creating a space where teens and young adults feel safe being honest is an important part of the therapeutic relationship.
We'll discuss expectations around confidentiality and parent involvement at the beginning of therapy.
Do you accept insurance?
No. I am not in-network with any insurance company. I charge my clients directly and offer out-of-network benefits through a superbill. A superbill is a statement submitted to your insurance for reimbursement. Reimbursement rates vary by plan and I always encourage clients to reach out to their insurance provider to learn about their specific out-of-network benefits.
I take a holistic approach and combine my years of experience to integrate psychodynamic therapy, DBT, CBT, and ACT. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach and treat each client as a unique person with unique struggles. We work collaboratively and I draw from a range of approaches to meet your specific needs.
